Next Training Night- October 4th

Hi 2688-ers!

A few reminders: This Sunday at the MARC Orienteering practice will be held for all interested cadets, Red Star and up only please. (Orienteering requires some basic map and compass skills, which you fine Green Stars will get this year, we promise. )

Also, (and pay close attention, this is VERY important) next Tuesday the 4th will be our first of three Fitness Testing Nights between now and Christmas. You should show up in comfortable exercise gear and bring a water bottle. Be prepared to do some working out!

Now, before you groan and decide to be sick that day, A few reminders from me, the Camp Lady, Lt. Williams. Success in Army Cadets most definitely hinges on being physically fit. You will never get to jump out of a plane (like CWO Allen) or hike the glaciers in Alaska (like RSM Williams) if you can't reach at least a silver fitness level by the time you're in your third year or so. Gold would be even better. (A Gold Fitness level, plus good attendance and performance at camp, almost guarantees you'll get to take part in some cool adventures through Cadets.)

If you're not there yet, now is the time to start working at it. Many of you have a year or two to work up to that.

ALSO, and more important for most of you, it may seem unbelievable but camp forms for next summer will be entered by January 1st. That is NOT that far away, and many courses require that you have a VERIFIED fitness level. It needs to be verified every training year, in fact. If you do not show up to PT nights and have your fitness level verified, we will not be able to enter your application for courses like Basic Sports and Fitness, Basic Expedition, overseas exchanges, etc. For you older cadets, you also won't be able to apply to things like Operation Subzero this coming February.

Sorry to be long-winded, but the importance of the Fitness Test on your ultimate success within the Army Cadets can't be overstated.

If you have any questions about the Army Cadet Fitness Test, please give our Training Officer, 2Lt Wharton, a call. She will be happy to address any concerns you might have.
