In case there's someone out there who does not know, the way a cadet is honoured for achievement is by receiving a shadow parade position during their graduation parade. I just wanted to take a few moments to give a shout out to all of the 2688 cadets who were so honoured in the summer of 2011:
First of all, Tristan Butts was not awarded a rank, but he was honoured in a different way: He got to participate in the banner party for Final Parade (which is a big honour all by itself!) as well as appearing on the Alpha company drill team.
Christian Hirtle, after a very long summer in the field (along with a broken finger) got the biggest laughs during the parade as Company Sergeant Major for Bravo company. (You'll have to ask HIM what he did to make the entire audience snicker...)
Joel O"Neil completed the Air Rifle Instructor course and was rewarded by being made a shadow Sergeant of his platoon.
Rodney Scott, pictured here with fellow 2688er Kyle Corkum, also was made a shadow sergeant for his General Training course.
Brandon Roberts, pictured here during his time in the field during the Basic Leadership course, was actually made Second in Command of his entire grad parade as a shadow Major! Bravo Zulu Brandon!
Access to some of my pics from the summer is hindered at the moment, so I apologize and I assure you more photos will be coming soon. But the following cadets also received shadow ranks this summer:
Katie Brown- shadow Warrant Officer for General Training
Wesley Eichel-shadow Sergeant for Basic Leadership
Liam Jeffers- shadow Captain (and Charlie company 2IC!) for Basic Marksman.
Also, be sure to be extra-nice to Dakota Bush when you see him...he wins the award for Most Injured 2688 Cadet for the summer, beating out Hirtle's broken finger with a fractured shoulder after a tussle with a wet bathroom floor.
He was still smiling though!
Now, I know I must be forgetting somebody, so if I am please remind me and I'll rectify the error.
Keep checking in for lots more pics of the summer's events at Argonaut, as well as regular info on the every day goings-on of the best cadet corps in Canada, the 2688 !
